King Pitches Six No-Hit Innings, Jacks Blank Royals

Calyb King (West Virginia Tech) struck out eight batters as the Jacks shut out the Winchester Royals, 5-0, at Casey Field on Wednesday night, June 12. King finished the night on the mound for the Jacks going six complete innings, not giving up any hits or runs and walking three batters.

Winchester came into the ball game averaging nearly 10 runs per game, however, it was the Lumberjacks doing the offensive work. Christian Torres (UMBC) knocked in the first runs of the game with a two run RBI triple in the bottom half of the first inning. Matthew Cocciadiferro (NJIT) followed up with a sacrifice fly to drive in Torres, to increase the Jacks lead to 3-0 heading into the second frame.

Logan Amiss (Virginia Commonwealth) and Austin Davis (Flagler) added RBI’s in the sixth. Amiss earned his RBI with a double to drive in Torres, while Davis drove in the Jacks fifth and final run of the game, bringing in Cocciadeferro from third base with a sacrifice fly.

Jacks relievers, Carson Werrmann (Centre College), Tyler Wilburn (Jacksonville State), and Derek Tremblay (VMI) combined for three shutout innings and allowed only two hits.

The victory improved the Jacks record to 6-3 on the season, while the Royals dropped to 4-4 with the loss.

The Jacks are back in action Thursday, June 13, as they travel to Woodstock to take on the River Bandits. First pitch set for 7 pm.

Wednesday night’s setting in Covington as the Lumberjacks shut out the Winchester Royals, 5-0.
