Caufield’s Walk Off Hit Gives Jack’s Big Win in Extras

Tom Caufield (University of North Carolina), delivered a walk off hit in the bottom of the eleventh to drop the Strasburg Express, 2-1. The Lumberjacks improved to 4-2 with the victory, while the Express fell to 1-3.

Hunter Davidson (University of North Alabama) started the night on the mound for the Jack’s, pitching six innings, giving up only five hits and recording six strike outs. The Express’s lone run of the game came against Davidson in the sixth inning.

Jack’s reliever’s Brendan Mignone (Rhode Island) and Derek Tremblay (Virginia Military Institute) combined for five innings pitched, giving up just three hits and no runs. Tremblay pitched four of the five innings of relief and finished the night with five strike outs.

Tyler Sanfilippo (Wagner College) hit the Lumberjacks lone home run of the season with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. The home run gave the Jack’s their only run of the game up until Caufield’s extra inning walk off hit. The home run came off of Express starting pitcher Dylan Oliver (University of Alabama). Sanfilippo’s finished the night 2-4.

The Lumberjacks are in action tonight, June 7, as they travel to Harrisonburg to face the Turks. The next home game in Covington is this Saturday, June 8. The Lumberjacks will take on the Waynesboro Generals starting at 7 p.m.
